Fiona is a qualified, registered dental nurse with 26yrs experience. Since 1983, her role has included staff training in all areas of dentistry, mentoring and providing individual tutoring for both the National Certificate and NVQ students.
Fiona has developed and delivered courses for both the National Certificate, NVQ level 2 & 3 and more recently the Oral Health Education Certificate. In addition to this Fiona has worked alongside and provided extra support and tuition for candidates with ‘specific learning difficulties’ (Dyslexia).
For the purpose of the current courses, Fiona has developed ‘workbooks’ for candidate use and a variety of learning materials.
Fiona holds the National Certificate for dental nurses, Cert ed, Cert OHE, FETC 7407 1&2, LCGI, V1/D34, A1/D32/D33, FGDP (UK) Key skill Assessor, FBADN and is a member of the Institute for learning, BADN, National Education Group, NOHPG and an associate member of the Faculty. She is a former examiner for both the National Examination and the Oral Health Education Certificate and acts as a mentor to student tutors, trainee assessors and internal verifiers, whilst remaining clinically hands on. Fiona is also a trained mentor and part of the FGDP (UK) Mentoring team and recently completed a BA (Hons) Ed.
Amanda (Mandi) initially qualified as a dental nurse in 1985 following a 2 year course at Birmingham Dental Hospital. Mandi continued to work at BDH, before leaving to undertake the Dental Hygiene course in 1988. On completion of the Hygienist course Mandi returned to work in general practice and local health authority for a short time.
Mandi has always been very interested in promoting good oral health and has a keen interest in teaching within the educational environment. Adding to her interest in teaching Mandi has recently joined the Leicester Dental Nurse Training Group, with the intention of applying her wealth of knowledge and expertise to the Oral Health Education Certificate. Mandi also acts as a guest speaker for the Diploma in Dental Nursing. In order to meet the requirements of the awarding body, Mandi has recently completed the PTTLS teaching qualification at Loughborough College, with success. Mandi also continues to pursue her chosen specialist field (dental hygiene).
Aissa qualified as a dental nurse and went on to undertake the post registration course in Radiography. Since then she has added further skills and experience to her profile in the clinical field and more recently has qualified as a laser treatment nurse.
Aissa continues to work in the dental clinical environment and has recently completed her PTLLS teaching qualification, prior to joining the Team. Aissa undertakes her teaching duties in both Leicester and Loughborough.
Janet began working in the dental profession in 1971 and has worked in many different environments including General Practice, Community and Dental Hospitals.
In 1985 she began took in active interest in the education aspect of her role and gained a qualification to teach in the Further Education field, leading to working in Colleges, Hospitals and other Youth Training.
She has been involved with a number of organisations over many years including The National Examining Board for Dental Nurses as both Examiner and Chairman; City & Guilds as an External Verifier; and is still actively involved with The Faculty of General Dental Practice as an Assessor and member of the DCP Committee.
Janet is a member of the General Dental Council, and a Trustee of the British Dental Health Foundation, a Governing Body member of Nugent Care in Liverpool; and also undertakes management and education projects on an independent basis.
She has recently been appointed lead examiner for City & Guilds.
